The SME Convention 2016 incorporating the first Government Procurement Fair was held on 28 January 2016. Focused on providing insight into how SMEs can grow through internationalisation, innovation, leadership and management, the event was attended by some 500 C-level and management executives. 

Dr Sze Tiam Lin, Director, IPI, participated in the panel discussion on ‘Accelerating Growth Through Technology Adoption’ where the panelists engaged in a lively dialogue on the constraints faced by SMEs in their innovation journey, the solutions and new models for evaluating new technologies. The panel discussed the technology appraisal system and financing schemes to support SMEs in adopting new technologies. They also addressed the gaps faced by SMEs in adopting technology such as information and access gaps to technologies; time and resources to support translation from technologies to new products and services; and networks to support and bring technology to market.

The other panelists were, Mr Leo (Hee Chang) Park, Senior Manager, International Business Department, Korean Technology Finance Corporation; Mr Melvin Tan, Chairman, SME Committee (SMEC) Sub-committee on Innovation; Mr Mark Lee, President, Textile and Fashion Federation (TAFF) and Ms Audrey Yap, Managing Partner, Yusarn Audrey. Mr Lam Kong Hong, Director, SMEC Secretariat, Singapore Business Federation was the moderator for the session.
