The rise of the fourth industry revolution or Industry 4.0 is changing how products are designed and produced. Businesses stand to gain operational efficiencies and cost savings by adopting new technologies such as additive manufacturing and automation, though the process to get started may be somewhat daunting in the beginning, especially for small and medium enterprises.
To give a flavour of how local enterprises can improve their product lifecycle management by leveraging innovative technologies and collaborations, IPI and Advanced Technology Enterprise (ATE) co-organised an industry sharing session on Product Innovation in the Age of Industry 4.0 on 14 June 2019.
One of the key takeaways highlighted by the speakers at the industry sharing session was the importance of collaborating with the innovation ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies. Lee Ya Ling, Technology Manager from IPI, shared how companies can tap into TechExpert, a one-stop technology expert matching platform launched by IPI to connect project owners with technical experts across diverse sectors.
Executive Director Keat Tze Wong from ATE, an engineering solutions technology company, introduced how their design tools and technologies support companies incorporate Industry 4.0 capabilities from product conceptualisation to production. One-to-one clinic sessions with IPI and ATE were well-received after the informative presentations for attendees to discuss specific innovation projects.
