SMART MAINTENANCE MOBILE KIOSK SOLUTIONS

Background

The Army manages the maintenance of its fleet of vehicles. There are manual paper works and processes to be completed before, during, and after performing any maintenance task. To exacerbate the challenge, Singapore faces a reducing birthrate, proportionally, the number of Singapore National Serviceman intake is also expected to shrink. Thus, there is a need to automate processes, and broaden the spectrum of personnel, to be able to perform more tasks.

DSTA seeks technological solutions to digitalise, automate and aid technicians in their daily job routines, enhancing the efficiency, and allowing less-skilled counterparts to also participate in the maintenance tasks. This would realise a smart workshop, where operators are able to aid technicians in the simpler tasks, and where administrative works and processes are automated.

Current Processes for Technicians:

  1. Preparation of physical forms
  2. Initiation of jobs within system (digital)
  3. Consolidation of support requirement (e.g. spares)
  4. Update progress of vehicle repair
  5. Indent of spares
  6. Collection of spares

With availability of manpower reducing in future, a smart workshop is envisaged to enhance the efficiency of the current processes.

Requirements

The basic requirements for the solution are as follows (in order from HIGH priority to LOW priority):

  • Augmented reality solution (maximum of 5 use cases) to display the step-by-step maintenance instructions, with augmented overlays to aid technicians.
  • Solution to enable user to automatically request for equipment, check equipment availability and raise maintenance order.
  • Solution to digitize an existing maintenance manual (limited use cases), with the addition of natural language processing.
  • Solution to design an interface on a server to intuitively display the information in S/N 1.
  • Hardware solution that aids the technicians in transporting the spares (minimally 150 kg payload) and smart maintenance assistant solutions (including charging ports etc.) around the workshop.
  • Back-up video guide displaying the maintenance tasks within the augmented reality solution.

The above-mentioned solution should be integrated with one another (e.g. the automated request for spares/ initation of maintenance order should take inputs from selected task within maintenance manual).

Desired Outcome

This Request for Proposal (RFP) seeks technically feasible concepts from technology solution vendors to enable the concept of a smart workshop, with the capability to guide technicians/ operators through maintenance leveraging augmented reality, automate the filling of forms/ create an enhanced user interface to improve soldier experience and a mobile platform for providing smart maintenance assistant solutions/ equipment transportation.

Development Timeframe

  • Testbed involve one Army workshop that performs maintenance on one type of Army vehicle.
  • Testbed location is within an Army Camp.
